(More customer reviews)I thought Zyliss was a great company 10 years ago but now it seems they are cost cutting. I own several new Zyliss products and they are all breaking. I won't buy another. This apple slicer didn't even make it past the first apple without bending a centering tang, and does NOT stack together for storage as advertised since the pieces are not round (but should be). The reason I bought it was to have a complete cut down into a soft bed ... this so called soft bed was very hard and didn't cut through. I sent it back. Amazon made it painless to return this ... but ... I don't recommend going through the drill to buy it and return it. And you WILL return it !

(More customer reviews)Years ago I bought a potato cutter at a garage sale. It was all steel and a good size (accepting virtually any potato without cutting it down to size). I've been very happy with it.
Recently we bought a cabin so needed to add a second set of kitchen tools. One of the items we decided we wanted was a second potato cutter. I ordered this one because of the "jumbo" in the name hoping that it would work as well as our previous garage sale cutter.
Thankfully, this product lives up to the jumbo name. It's larger than our garage sale cutter by 20% or so. It is easy to use and clean up. Not to mention it has a suction cup to attach it to the counter which works surprisingly well.
Pros: Large with two sizes of cutting blades; a larger mesh for traditional fries and smaller mesh for McDonald-like fries.
Cons: It's plastic and steel which makes me wonder about longevity.
All-in-all, I think this was a good purchase.
Update
My wife loves this vegetable cutter and has asked me to order another! She has used ours at least twice a week since we recieved it in Aug 2005 and has had no difficulties with it at all. I'm surprised to see that another purchaser has had problems with this product. Perhaps they received a defective one? At any rate, I would still recommend the product.

(More customer reviews)The product itself get 5 stars for ease and functionality and 4 stars for a cleaning problem and lack of accessories.
In the package are 2 different sized blade grates and push blocks that are easily assembled and removed from the main body by depressing a small lever and turning a latch, respectively. Cutting capacity is less than 4 inches in length. You'll have to "cut" large Russets before "cutting!"
Clean-up is mostly easy, if you have a baby bottle nipple brush to poke through the grate holes and cross brush the push blocks (a toothbrush for the latter works also). However, the main body has slots where the push block slides. This area collects and traps small potato fragments and is difficult to clean.
I would like to see different shaped blade grates, just for the heck of it. You never know what strange moods you will be in!? I would enjoy a larger capacity in the main body, but this would cause more strength to cut the potatoes. Right now, there's a good compromise between capacity and cutting effort.
Don't forget to double fry your potatoes: about 2-3 minutes at 325F, pat dry, then about 5 minutes or golden brown at 375F.
