If you own the Lodge Logic 10-1/4-inch skillet, this cover allows for more versatility. It allows for even heating and dutch oven type use. If you prepare something, and just want to keep it warm, or use it outdoors and need protection. It also will seal in nutrients and flavors because of the tight fit, and also the self-basting spikes. I used another lid in a pinch, but it didnt give me the same cooking results as the Lodge lid. The 3-quart chicken fryer, and 5-quart Dutch oven have the same size lids, and you can interchange those lids, but I found I was using them at the same times often, and needed a seperate lid for my skillet. For the price, it just doesnt make sense not to go ahead and have one.

These pots are nice but they are not comparable in quality to Le Creuset. I ordered quite a few of these in different sizes from Amazon when they were on a Friday special. Some of the pots are better than others. On some the enamel doesn't seem to be as thick, there are places where you can see the cast iron just under the surface. I am assuming that this may wear through sooner. Others appear to have a much better enamel coating. The lids on the Heuck pieces don't fit on the pots quite as nicely as the lids do on Le Creuset pots. They are also heavier than Le Creuset is for the same sized pot. You will likely need a ladle in order to remove the contents if you use this sauce pan. I waitressed for years carrying heavy trays and I can just barely manage to hold this 2.5 quart pot up and scrape the contents out with a spatula. Overall they are definitely worth the price, but if you can find second hand Le Creuset that has the interior enamel relatively intact it would probably be a better deal, as it appears that they will last longer than these Heuck pots will.
10/27/2010. As I was afraid of, the enamel in some places has worn away on the interior of some of my Heuck pots and now there are rust stains around the exposed cast iron. My 20+ year old LeCreuset still looks beautiful!

I've used this pot a couple of times since I've bought it for both cheese and chocolate fondues. Overall I'm very pleased. The food is cooked quickly and the clean up time is very fast and easy. The magnet holding the heating cord is genius. When it gets too hot simply remove the cord.
I can think of only two negatives. The cord is very short making it difficult to use. I find the best way to use it for company is to heat the fondue and then carry the pot. Also I'm not sure the heating control is calibrated correctly. The warm setting produces violent bubbles in the fondue. I'm afraid to see what 500 degrees will do.

I use to own an electric pressure cooker, and after many scorched meals, decided to try a stove-top model. It was the best move I could have made! 18/10 stainless, surrounding aluminum on the bottom has kept every meal scorch-free. I feel completely safe using this pressure cooker. It locks easily, and the dial indicating if the pot is at pressure and if it is at high or low pressure is fool-proof. There is nothing complicated about using this pressure cooker. I just can't say enough about this pot. I have cooked professionally, and I have cooked for many years. I would not be exaggerating if I told you that this is the best-loved piece of cookware that I own. Fagor has produced an outstanding product.

The problem with many pressure cookers is the rubber gaskets get hard, and then the cookers won't seal. The new one from Fagor is silicone, so it should last about forever. The original gasket was rubber, not silicone, so this is an improvement.

A rubber gasket's primary purpose is to create a constant tight seal. Over time a gasket can dry out and lose its elasticity. If you notice this happening, replace the gasket immediately. A worn out gasket can lead to steam not building up, or worse, escaping from your cooker.

Tempering chocolate is one of the hardest things to do; even experienced professionals will fail at this task from time to time. There are machines that will do this, but they cost 4 figures. At less than $400, anyone who has an electrical outlet in the kitchen and can press two buttons can have perfectly tempered chocolate in about 20 minutes. Even the klutzy will be successful.
The most important feature of this machine is that the level of temper produced by this gadget is absolutely perfect, and is identical to the chocolate I temper by hand. It has separate settings for white, milk, or dark chocolates. I use one at work, and no longer have to temper chocolate for other employees. Mechanically, the machine operates flawlessly (an important fact, since the bowl rotates continuously whenever the machine is on). Operation is simple, since it has instructions printed right on the machine. The temper cycle is computer controlled, so you do not really need to know how it is done; you just push a couple of buttons. Also, it will operate by itself once you press the buttons; tempering by hand requires your full attention for at least half an hour. With this thing, you can get it going and do something else for a few minutes, which is extremely important in a professional kitchen.
There are some minor drawbacks. It has several pieces that you assemble, so be careful that you do not lose any when you break down the machine to wash it. The capacity is 1 1/2 pounds; this sounds like a lot, but once you get into it, that pound and a half will get used up awfully fast. The cycle time is 20 minutes, so if you run out of tempered chocolate, you will have to wait that long for another batch; there is no provision for trickle-feeding. Also note that you must wash out the machine when you are done; there is no provision for overnight storage of the melted chocolate. Of course, these drawbacks can be cured by purchasing the professional version of this machine (I think it is called "X" or "X1320" or some such thing), at about $1300.
For the uninitiated, you must use real chocolate, and not confectionery coatings. You must temper if you are going to do something fancy with the chocolate: dip candy, fill chocolate molds, make those fancy chocolate decorations you saw on cable TV, etc. If you are going to cook with it (cakes, cookies, brownies, sauces, etc.), you do not temper chocolate.

This Cuisinart Chef's Classic saute pan has quickly become my favorite pan. It's huge - a full 12" across - which makes it very versatile. The pan conducts heat extremely well and is oven safe to 500 degrees. The handle is very sturdy, reasonably comfortable, and stays cool (outside of the oven, of course). The lid fits tightly. Both the interior and the exterior are very shiny and attractive. All this and it's easy to clean. Yet this pan sells for just a fraction of the sexier brands like All-Clad or Calphalon.
The chief reason for the great price is due to the construction. This is known as a "disk bottom" pan because it has a highly conductive aluminum disk embedded in its base. The really expensive brands feature "cladding", where a layer of conductive metal (usually aluminum) is embedded throughout the entire pan. Although the cookware industry loves to say that disk-bottom pans are inferior, test after test proves this claim is untrue. After all, we don't cook on the sides of a pan; we only cook on the bottom. See Cook's Illustrated magazine, May/June 2003, for a great discussion of this.
There are a few reasons why this pan might not be right for you. This pan's size makes it fairly heavy, so if you have arthritis or weak hands, you might want to opt for a smaller pan. Similarly, this pan might not fit on those tiny stovetops or ranges that you sometimes see in "galley" kitchens in apartments. But if you want a large, durable, high-quality saute pan at a fraction of the cost of the big-name brands, this is the pan for you.

We make a large breakfast every Sunday which includes waffles. We use two waffle irons: the Village Ware Mickey Mouse Waffle Iron and this one. The Mickey Mouse one, by far, makes the better waffles, however, these usually go to the kids and my husband and I have ones from the Oster. The Oster waffle iron does not cook the waffles evenly. The top center does not cook as fast as the rest of the unit. We've tried more/less batter, thicker/runnier batter, and adjusting the temperature and nothing helps. I usually "flip" the waffle over and cook it for another 30 seconds to brown the side that didn't cook evenly. However, it's not "bad" enough to warrent buying another one. That's why I could only give it an "average" 3 star rating.

You cannot beat All-Clad in the quality department. After using this pan for a week my family even noticed how my cooking was tastier. This pan does a fantastic job caramelizing meat and veggies. It heats very quickly and evenly. But it also cools very rapidly because the copper is a fantastic conductor of heat and cold. I like the copper core better because of the ease of maintenance. Just a little Barkeeper's Friend and it shines like new. The handle stays cool enough in most applications for me to use it bare handed. The sides are sloped just right to impress your friends with a little food flipping action. I've used it on both electric and gas stoves and was happy with the even heating of both. If you can swing the price you won't regret it.

The 86628 works just fine BUT I bought it based on West Bend's advertized wattage rating of 600W--thinking more is better. In actuality the unit is only rated at 350W. West Bend claims they're changing the misinformation on their site today.
My previous Egg Cooker was an Oster and it was OK.
I prefer my new 86628 because: It's all plastic so the egg holder won't discolor as did the Oster. The water measuring cup allows exact measures not like some others where you add water to the base. The egg holder allows you to remove all the eggs at once and imerse in cooling water so you don't have to handle each egg separately. The 'done' signal is LOUD. I like the positive Off/On switch. Others shut off the unit when cooking is finished. In my opinion that kind of temperature sensitive switching is a weakness. Which is what happened to my Oster. Although the water measuring instructions don't make sence to me, ie: more eggs need less water, I followed the instructions for soft boiling 4 and the eggs were perfect. And AMAZON.com is an excellent way to buy merchandise.

I originally purchased just the "Sittin' Chicken" steamer, but after using it the first time I immediately ordered the chicken and turkey combo so I would never be without this option for roasting poultry. If you're going to feed more than two or three hungry people, you will need to roast more than one chicken anyway, so this gives me two chicken and one turkey steamer. The popular method has always been to use a can of beer for this type of cooking, but I like using fruit juices. Apple juice is my favorite. The meat comes out with a moist and sweet flavor, unattainable by other methods. For Easter this year I did a turkey on the grill (we have a wood pellet grill) with pineapple juice and beer in the Sittin' Turkey, and quickly discovered that I will need to make more turkey next year for this crowd. They loved it.
In addition, the ceramic steamers are easy to clean. I rub a little vegetable oil on the outside before cooking to keep crusty bits from sticking, and simply throw them in the dishwasher when I'm done. I don't think I will ever go back to the old way of roasting poultry.

I purchased this electric skillet when my old trusty electric skillet died. What a mistake! The product is raised in the center, and as a result, any liquid, such as pancake batter or eggs, run to the sides. My biggest complaint is that EVERYTHING sticks to the pan. No amount of oil or butter can stop virtually all foods from sticking. I was initially attracted to this product because it has a removable pan. However, it does not heat evenly. I suspect this is because the pan just sits on top of electric coils, and the heat is not distributed evenly. I do not recommend this product!
