(More customer reviews)Since I have started using this unit I have cooked my best Thanksgiving turkey, my best Christmas ham and my best New Year's pork roast ever. The only reason it's not 5 star is that I've needed the booklet almost every time I've used it. The controls aren't difficult, but they aren't really intuitive either. I'd go 4-1/2 stars if I had the option.

Featuring iPod-style controls and an amber backlit LCD, the Maverick Voice Alert wireless cooking thermometer transmits up to 100 feet and lets you know when food is ready with temperature and taste control voice alerts. Just insert the needle end into the meat, and either clip the Thermometer transmitter to your pocket or leave it in its cradle. Timer and voice messages will tell you when you're needed. Other features include a built-in countdown timer, external antenna for excellent reception, nest-style transmitter charges and holds unit, and a rain intrusion seal. (More customer reviews)My kitchen gremlins somehow swallowed my old deep frying/candy thermometer which I had owned for years. You don't realize how valuable a tool is until you try to complete a task without it.
If you use a Wok or pan to deep fry food a good thermometer is essential, and my old Taylor one was well worn.
The new model 804 is lighter, longer and more accurate than the one I lost. It has a clear,readable numeric display on the face, and fits large woks as well as large or small pots. All you need to do is adjust the clip to the size of your pot or wok.
I would not recommend using this item in smaller pots, as it sticks up too high, and you need to be very careful.
